St. Matthew's Pre-School
Learning and playing together
The preschool has been on the same site since the 1970’s – the halls attached to St Matthew’s church in Tarring Road. It is our aim to provide a happy, safe and secure environment for children to take their first steps in education via the Early Years Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum. We operate within the social services guidelines and are registered with Ofsted.
We are very fortunate to have a good sized main room where the children are encouraged to participate in craft, construction, sand and water play, enjoyment of books and many other activities which develop the 6 areas of learning for this age group.
There is also have a large hall where PE and music take place all year round and where – when the weather is very wet – we can use bikes, slides, pushchairs and all manner of equipment to develop Motor Skills.
A quiet room is available for Language & Literacy work with individuals and small groups, ICT and for Story time at the end of each session.
We have a lovely large grassed area to the side of the building with good fencing where we can explore and play in safety.
The Preschool is open each weekday during term time. We have sessions for children aged from 2.5 to 5 years. The school operates with a key worker scheme allowing parents the opportunity to talk to the staff with confidence about their child.
We work with you and your child to prepare them to enter mainstream school as happy, confident and well-balanced individuals.
