Home Groups

St. Matthew’s has around 10 home groups. The home groups meet weekly or fortnightly to study the Bible, pray together, and welcome newcomers, they also have social events and engage in projects. Everyone in the church is welcome and encouraged to join a home group. Home groups are one of the most important building blocks of our church life together.

My Home Group Experience.

I joined a home group at St. Matthew's, following on from an Alpha course. At that time my work required me to work one Sunday in two, so being a member of the home group gave me continuity in my fellowship, Bible study, and worship. Not only has my understanding of the Bible, and spiritual life been enhanced by being a home group member, I have also met, and become very close friends with other group members. I would strongly recommend that you to join a home group especially if you are unable to attend Sunday worship regularly.        Colin Santer

For more information on home groups in the Parish or how to join a home group please contact John Chitham

Music Group

The music for the 10.30 am service is led by a committed and talented band comprising of keyboard, rhythm and electro-acoustic guitars, bass, drums, trumpet & flute, as well as various singers. We are also privileged to have organists who sometimes play on their own during Holy Communion, accompany the congregation or play as part of the band. The youngest band member was born in 1993 and the oldest is retired!

We strive for excellence in our music, believing that God requires the first fruits of our offerings, and that 'good enough' is not what a heart of worship requires. We want to make a 'joyful noise' to the Lord, as we are asked to in Psalm 33, and our prayer is to be united in the Holy Spirit in leading the congregation to the person who is central in our hearts, our thoughts, and our church services, our Lord Jesus, and not to 'perform' or 'crowd-please'.

The music is chosen to fit with the theme of each week's sermon, and is thought about carefully and prayerfully at regular meetings between John, Mary, and Babette the band leader. It is our hope that sensitively chosen music will enable everybody, whatever their age, their musical tastes, or their degree of comfort singing in a congregational setting, to worship through the God given language of music, and to feel part of a fellowship whose eyes are fixed firmly on Jesus.

Men's Group

St. Matthews Men’s Group is an informal group which aims to offer a platform for social activities for men both from within and outside the church congregation. The group provides an ideal way of getting to know other men of St Matthews in a relaxed atmosphere with fewer of the distractions usually found on a Sunday morning.

If you would like to join in with any of our events please get in touch with Ravi who is also our Youth leader.
